There are many ways to make a casserole — pasta, rice, potatoes… even tater tots! But one option you don’t see near often enough is pierogi. They make a great base for a casserole! Comforting and chewy, you can pick a bag from your grocery store freezer section in whatever flavor you like and pair it with a few simple ingredients to make a simple bake that comes together in mere minutes. That means it’s perfect for busy weeknights and it’s creamy, cozy, and always family-friendly too.

What Ingredients Do You Need for Kielbasa Pierogi Casserole?

This uses a few shortcut ingredients for one super fast and easy dinner. They are:

  • A bag of frozen pierogi.
  • One pound of kielbasa.
  • Cream cheese, sour cream, and chicken broth.
  • Garlic powder.
  • Green onions.
  • Cheddar cheese.

You can absolutely play around with adding some other seasonings and spices like paprika, a touch of hot sauce, some herbs. It’s very versatile!

How do you Make Kielbasa Pierogi Casserole?

This is kind of one of those ‘dump and bake’ situations, so you have little more to do than layer and stir. To start with, you want to slice up that kielbasa and get it into a 9×13 along with the pierogis. You don’t need to thaw them and you can use any flavor you like!

Then, you just mix together that cream cheese, sour cream, and chicken broth along with half of the cheddar and half of the green onions. Pour that over the kielbasa and pierogis and toss it all together.

You’ll want to toss gently to avoid breaking the pierogis, but it still should only take you a couple of minutes. From there, like most good casseroles call for, you’ll top this with more cheese and then get it in the oven. You want to bake this covered so that the pierogis cook through before everything browns but you can remove that foil for the last ten minutes so all that cheese can get nice and bubbly and at least a little golden.

All you need to complete the meal here is a simple side salad and maybe some crusty bread. This is hearty fare so you don’t need much to round it out. We love a dinner that’s in the oven in five minutes and this one makes weeknights super simple.
