There’s something wonderfully simple and nostalgic about a classic butter cookie, and these Greek Butter Cookies are no exception. With their delicate texture and lightly sweet flavor, they strike that perfect balance between rich and airy. Traditionally known as kourabiedes, these cookies are closely tied to celebration, often appearing at weddings, holidays, and family gatherings. Once you taste them, it’s easy to see why they’re a favorite!

The dough comes together quickly, starting with creaming butter and sugar until it’s light and fluffy. That step is key for achieving that tender bite these cookies are known for. Once the egg and extracts are mixed in, the flour is added just until everything comes together into a workable dough.

One of the most charming parts of this recipe is shaping the cookies. Rolling the dough into thin logs and curling them into an “S” shape gives them that traditional look you might recognize from bakery windows or holiday trays!

After a quick bake, the cookies come out just lightly golden on the edges, with a soft, buttery center that firms up as they cool. They’re perfect alongside a cup of coffee or tea, and they store well too, making them a great make-ahead treat. Whether you’re baking for a gathering or just want something simple and sweet on hand, these Greek Butter Cookies are a simple choice that never disappoints.
