Comforting bliss doesn’t fully describe the greatness that is Cinnamon Toast. Simple slices of bread get a thick slathering of seasoned butter. They are baked until golden perfection, elevating a simple slice of bread into something magical.

Cinnamon toast doesn’t sound difficult, but it can definitely be done wrong. For many, cinnamon toast was a simple process of spreading butter, sprinkling on cinnamon sugar, and toasting. But it can be done much (much) better. Here, the butter is mixed with the cinnamon, sugar, and a mixture of other seasonings before being spread from edge to edge of the toast.

Mixing the butter with the other ingredients makes the flavor of the cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla distribute equally throughout the butter.

Pop the bread in the oven for ten minutes. After ten minutes, put the oven on broil and broil for a few seconds; make sure to make the bread while it’s broiling, or else it’ll go from golden to burnt in an instant.
Served warm, this Cinnamon Toast has all the buttery, gooey, cinnamon-y delight of a cinnamon roll, just minus the effort.

Broiling the bread for a few seconds gives it a satisfying crème brûlée-like crunch on the top.

It’s a great sweet breakfast treat that satisfies that warm cinnamon craving, or it can be an afternoon snack with a warm cup of coffee!
Cinnamon Toast
Ingredients
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 8 slices bread, white, cinnamon raisin, or whole wheat
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper, set aside.
- Beat butter until smooth and lump free, about 1 minute, add in sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg, mixing well to combine.
- Spread the mixture onto the slice of bread, making sure to completely cover the entire surface all the way to the edges. Repeat this process with the remaining bread and spread.
- Place the toast onto the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10 minutes. Turn on the broiler and bake for 30 seconds to toast the tops further.
- Remove from the oven, cut the slice diagonally in half, serve warm, and enjoy!
