The Texas Tommy
This smoky, cheesy take on a boring old hot dog is sure to satisfy even the hungriest backyard BBQ fan. And the best part? No grill necessary!

Ok a hot dog is a hot dog, right? Well let’s crank up the flavor! Picture this: melty, brown, and bubbly mozzarella cheese stuffed in the center, and smoky bacon wrapped around the whole thing. And the best part? This dog can be made rain or shine since there’s no grill needed.

What Ingredients Do You Need For a Texas Tommy?
- All-Beef Hot Dogs
- Mozzarella String Cheese
- Bacon
- Toothpicks

How Do You Make a Texas Tommy?
This one is about as straightforward as it gets! Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and prepare a sheet tray with a resting rack (for easy cleanup I put a parchment sheet underneath the rack to catch any cheese drips). Split your hot dogs open lengthwise, making sure to not cut all the way through, then peel your string cheeses in half lengthwise. Place a string of cheese inside each hot dog, then spiral-wrap a slice of bacon down the length of the hot dog, pinning it on both ends with toothpicks.

Arrange your hot dogs on the prepared tray, then toss them in the oven for fifteen to twenty-five minutes (depending on how crispy you like your bacon and cheese). Once the bacon is cooked and the cheese is melty, brown, and bubbly, remove from the oven and pull out those toothpicks. Serve as-is or slap them on a bun for some seriously delicious dogs! My recommendation? A little BBQ sauce over the top really sets these apart from any other hot dog you’ve ever had.
