To start, this dish starts off with cooking ground beef. While you can season the beef now, it’s best to hold off on the salt, as the broth for the casserole is higher in salt and will season the ground beef as it cooks. 

Next transfer the beef into the casserole dish followed by rice, water, thyme, consommé, and of course butter. Top the casserole with the butter, making sure it is distributed evenly over the top.

Wrap the casserole tightly with aluminum foil for thirty minutes, and then bake uncovered for an additional thirty minutes.
