Hawaiian Shoyu Chicken is one of those simple recipes that delivers big flavor with very little effort. The marinade is made with pantry staples like soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger, creating the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and just a little bit spicy. After a few hours in the refrigerator, the chicken soaks up every bit of that rich flavor, making each bite juicy and delicious!

Chicken thighs are the ideal choice here because they stay tender and flavorful no matter how you cook them. Whether you throw them on the grill for smoky char, sear them in a skillet for crisp edges, or bake them in the oven for an easy weeknight dinner, they come out delicious every time. The simple marinade does most of the work, so there’s very little hands-on cooking involved.

This is the kind of meal that’s just as good for a busy Tuesday as it is for a backyard cookout. Serve the chicken over steamed rice to soak up all those flavorful juices, then add a side of grilled pineapple, macaroni salad, or roasted vegetables to round out the meal.

One of the best things about this recipe is how easy it is to prepare ahead of time. Mix the marinade, let the chicken rest in the refrigerator, and when you’re ready to eat, simply cook it using your favorite method. With its sweet-and-savory flavor and incredibly tender texture, Hawaiian Shoyu Chicken is a recipe that’s easy enough for weeknights but special enough to make again and again.
