There’s something about an old-school casserole that never goes out of style, and this Neiman Marcus Chicken Casserole is exactly that kind of recipe. It’s creamy, cheesy, crunchy, and packed with all the flavors that make a dinner feel cozy and comforting. Between the shredded chicken, savory bacon, buttery crackers, and sharp cheddar cheese, every bite has a little bit of everything. It’s the sort of meal that disappears quickly at potlucks and family dinners alike.

The name behind this casserole isn’t exactly clear. Like many famous department store recipes, this dish is said to be connected to the luxury retailer Neiman Marcus, which became known over the decades for their café lunches and rich comfort foods. Whether the recipe truly originated from one of their dining rooms or simply borrowed the name for a touch of glamour, the casserole definitely fits the reputation.

The creamy mixture of chicken soup, sour cream, and cheddar keeps everything rich and satisfying, while the green onions and hot sauce cut through the richness just enough. Then come the buttery Ritz crackers on top, which bake into a golden crust that adds the perfect crunch. The almonds give the casserole a subtle nuttiness and crunch.

This is also one of those recipes that’s easy to throw together with leftover chicken or a rotisserie from the store. Everything gets mixed right in the baking dish, topped with crackers and butter, and baked until hot and bubbling. It’s simple, filling, and dependable in the best possible way. Recipes like this stick around for decades because they deliver exactly what people want: comfort food that’s easy to make and even easier to love.
