Nothing nostalgically screams the weekend quite like a tube of cinnamon rolls. You know exactly which type I’m talking about. The primary blue color of the Pillsbury label’s peel-away instructions that almost inevitably get tossed out in the trash. The tub of perfectly cylindrical dough and with an enjoyable tactile feeling of separating the rolls from one another — those cinnamon rolls. Yet these tubes of quick breakfast treats harbor a crime — cinnamon roll icing, or more precisely, a lack of cinnamon roll icing. If you’re looking for more icing, then you’ve come to the right place. This recipe for Copycat Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll Icing is the carbon copy version of the stuff that comes in the tube.

For those who want more than one tablespoon of icing for their entire batch of cinnamon rolls, then listen up, this recipe is for you! Copycat Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll Icing is the soft, creamy taste of the stuff we’re all too familiar with. Here, the slightly sweet icing is balanced by vanilla and a bit of salt, amping up the flavor and also counteracting the powdered sugar.

Just like with any typical frosting, you want your butter soft and at room temperature. Once the butter is creamed, add in the vanilla and salt, followed by the powdered sugar and heavy cream.

Once the powdered sugar is well incorporated and there are no lumps, this Copycat Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll Icing is good to go!

Just like the Pillsbury frosting, you’ll want to add the frosting onto slightly warm cinnamon buns, that way the frosting will spread and melt all over.

The frosting will coat the rolls in the best possible way and seep slightly into the rolls, preventing them from drying out.

This version can be doubled or tripled, depending on the size of your cinnamon roll batch. It’s easy to make ahead, which is perfect when you’re in production mode to make tons of cinnamon rolls.

Whether you can make an extra addition to your store-bought rolls or are making cinnamon rolls from scratch, this recipe for Copycat Pillsbury Cinnamon Roll Icing will have you covered!
