In the old days a dish was called “deviled” or “Jezebel” if it was spiced and the names have stuck. This Baked Brie with Jezebel Peaches is a good mix of creamy, sweet, and spicy for the just the right level of flavor in each bite. And the directions for making it are so simple. This is a truly wonderful shortcut for entertaining. It makes it seem like you spent so much time on an elaborate appetizer for your guests when you only had to spend a few minutes dicing a peach.
The secret to this tasty dish is some hot pepper jelly. It’s not so spicy to cause alarm, but it does have a little kick. And, the bright red color gives this starter a festive color.
We’re just mixing the jelly with some finely diced peach as the topping to go on the Brie.
For the Brie we are cutting off the top rind after unwrapping it. This allows it to melt and also removes a bit of the rind flavor, which can be bitter. Usually the rind is very mild, but sometimes the top can be thicker than the sides and contain more flavor. So it’s best just to trim it off and then pop it back into the wooden box it came in for baking.
Then bake your Brie with the peach mixture on top. This softens the fruit and also caramelizes it a bit at the same time. The result is a melted, creamy Brie base with yummy spiced peach on top that’s just the perfect texture together.
Serve this Brie with a knife and some bread or with some sturdy crackers as seen here. It’s the perfect nibble for before dinner and a great way to pamper your company with an opulent appetizer. And, it takes very little in the way of effort to pull off! Those are truly the best kinds of recipes.
