There are some people who are born to be heroes and others who become heroes due to their own actions. Many of those individuals work jobs that put them on the front line, such as being a policeman, firemen, or paramedics.

For 17-year-old Anthony Zhongor, however, the opportunity to become a hero came as a result of taking action when it was possible to do so. Fortunately, he was on the spot and there was a camera there to capture the scene of what took place.

According to a press release from the Suffolk County Police Department, Zhongor rushed into the water to save a woman that had driven in by mistake. That 18-year-old woman, Mia Samolinski drove her car into the bay shortly after 10 PM when she hit the gas instead of the breaks.

Zhongor spoke with CBS news, saying: “I just hear a huge splash and everyone running toward the dock.” When he looked into the water, he could see that she was having a difficult time getting out of the vehicle.

Without thinking, he just jumped in. She was banging on the door and trying to break it and was obviously frightened.

When Zhongor reached the side door, he was able to open it and help her safely out of the vehicle. He then got her back to the dock.

Charlie Samolinski, the woman’s father, said that without a doubt, Anthony is the real hero of the day. He said that there were a group of people there on the dock and some were filming it but it was Anthony who did something about it.

In his words: “She’s here today because of him. A car can be replaced. Things can be replaced. My daughter? Irreplaceable.”
