Instacart drivers have been true heroes throughout the pandemic, helping many of us to avoid the hassles of stepping outside and navigating big crowds.

The driver in this story, though? They have taken this concept to a whole new level. Once you get the chance to see what happened for yourself, you will see why this driver has managed to receive so much praise.

Jessica Higgs (also known as @jessicahiggs3 on TikTok) is the driver in question and she shared the story on a TikTok clip that has since gone viral.

When she was delivering groceries to one of her more elderly customers, she noticed something that needed to be addressed right away. Unbeknowst to them, there was a pretty serious gas leak taking place and we shudder to think of what would have happened if Jessica hadn’t noticed it.

Fortunately, she arrived at the right moment. The story begins with a fairly normal delivery. The elderly man’s daughter had ordered groceries for them because they were not able to shop for themselves. The video has since been viewed over 16 million times and there are no shortage of supportive comments from all of the relieved viewers.

“It was a daughter ordering for her dad who couldn’t shop for himself,” Higgs explains to the viewers at home. “She was like, ‘OK, just go ahead and put it on the porch, and he’ll get it.’ And I was like, ‘Alright, cool, that’s what I normally do.’” She waited until the older man came to his door and it was not long before she noticed that something was not right.

It’s against company protocols to carry the groceries into the home but Jessica was not going to take no for an answer here. While she was only inside for a moment or two, she immediately felt dizzy. A visible propane tank made her wonder if there was a leak that was causing her dizziness. She began to worry about the father, so she contacted the daughter and let her know what was going on.

“I said, ‘There’s gotta be a leak … and he might not be doing good because of this leak,” Higgs shared. In fact, there was a gas leak and her tip saved the man’s life. The grateful daughter upped her tip from $14 to $100 but the thanks did not stop there. She even left a comment on the order, letting Jessica know that she had saved her father. “I’m just an Instacart worker,” Higgs said, fighting through her tears. “But if you see something, say something.”

You’re not just a worker, Jessica….you are a hero.
