Garlic Bread of the Future is technically a side. The dippable, crunchy, sidekick sopping up the saucy pasta remains, but this version will never really be eaten as a side. With a spread of herbed garlic butter toasted on all sides, it has flavor on all surface areas. Think back to old garlic bread with a stingy smear of butter, and then it was just miles of unseasoned bread — boring. The paled, unseasoned garlic bread of the past can’t compete with this new contender. With this new recipe, garlic bread turns into a dangerously addictive substance — you won’t just eat one. This isn’t just bread, it’s an eating experience.

Some TikTok recipes are questionable, but not this recipe. Coined Garlic Bread of the Future by recipe creator Cedric Thompson (also known as Chef Ced), this perfect herb and garlic-packed garlic bread is part of his pantheon of recipes that take classic recipes and turn up the notch on flavor. The recipe is short and sweet but full of flavor. A compound butter gets spread onto cubes of bread and then pan-fried on all sides, creating a crunchy herby bite on the outside while keeping the center soft and pillowy.

The ingredients are simple, the hardest being preparing all of the garlic. If you don’t want to be mincing up a million cloves of garlic, you can simply use the jarred minced garlic in a grocery store to speed things along.

When it comes to the bread, you ideally want an Italian loaf or a loaf of soft, but sturdy, white bread. Using a heavy artisanal loaf will lead to a hard-to-chew garlic bread. Buying thin pre-sliced bread won’t yield the same dramatic effect.

To get maximum flavor, the crust has to be removed. Use a knife to cut off the crust, and then cut it into 2-inch cubes.

Next, you tackle the butter. In a bowl, stir together the butter, herbs, and garlic. Make sure the butter is very soft, or else it’ll be impossible to spread it onto the bread.

After applying the butter on all sides of the bread, place them in a skillet and cook. Each side only takes a few minutes.

These cubed bites of garlic bread are a game charger. All sides of the bread are packed with flavor. You’re not left with acres of plain unseasoned bread. The outsides are crispy, but the insides are pillowy, and each bite is truly better than the next. You’ll eat them on their own, no entree is required here.

Ingredients
  • 1 white loaf or any thick soft bread, crust removed and cut into 2-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine ground black pepper
Preparation
  1. In a bowl combine butter, garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper, until it forms into a unified paste.
  2. To keep your hand clean use gloves and apply the butter mixture onto all sides of the prepared cubes of bread. Add into a nonstick skillet and cook on a medium heat flipping the bread onto all sides until all sides are golden brown, about 8 minutes.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!
