In an interview with CBS Morning, the east Tennessee native not only talked about her new products but also discussed the inspiration behind her southern cake series. Ms. Parton talked about her early memories in the kitchen and said that growing up around her mother and aunts, baking was a given. Ms. Parton stated that, by default, she learned the ins and outs of classic southern cooking so it’s no wonder that Dolly Parton leaned on her regional roots to choose flavors for her cake mixes and frostings.

In honor of the lineup’s commencement, Duncan Hines created a special collector’s edition called the “Dolly Parton Baking Collection.” The package, which you can order directly at Duncan Hines’ website includes both cake mixes and frostings, as well as recipe cards, a spatula, and a tea towel. The boxed set, priced at $40, sold out on the first day of release. As seen on the website, there are notifications for a restock, but there is no timeline for a second release of the collection.

So far the lineup is small but reflective of Dolly Parton’s heritage. The cake flavor lineup includes banana and coconut, while the frosting lineup includes creamy buttercream and chocolate. These flavors easily mix and match, making for delicious combinations! As always with Duncan Hines, the mixes require minimal ingredients. Just add some oil, water, and eggs and you’re on your way to a great cake.

Even if you missed out on the special collector’s package, you’ll still be able to get your hands on Dolly Parton’s line of cakes and frostings. As Ms. Parton mentioned in her interview with ABC the southern cake and frosting flavors are supposed to hit store shelves in March.

Dolly Parton, who proudly stated that she recently celebrated her 76th birthday, says she always takes every opportunity and tries to make every new adventure happen. Her cheery personality is almost as peppy and pink as her cake line. Just like the slogan printed on the spatula and tea towel states – “If you are what you eat, you might as well be sweet” – reflects the positivity of Dolly Parton, which makes this cake collection worth the wait!
