Corporate America will certainly burn you out if you allow it to. This is why there is such a wide range of people who decided to find new jobs once the pandemic hit. It has also been hard for employers to convince their employees that they need to get back into the office.

However, this woman, Soldana, managed to reclaim her work/life balance and all it took was a move across the pond.

Once she got to Paris, she noticed a massive difference in this regard. Now, she is sharing those findings with the rest of the world. “Moving to Europe gave me a significantly higher quality of life,” she says. Be forewarned, though: she did take a pay cut to make this happen.

Before she moved to Paris, she was working in New York City. While she was making $80,000 per year, this money does not carry you too far when you live in the city that never sleeps.

Can you believe that she had to split a place with three roommates, just so that she would be able to make ends meet? It’s tough to wrap our minds around but that is life in NYC.

Finally, she was given the chance to walk down a completely different path. She was offered a similar consulting job in Paris and although the pay was lower, she had to consider it. Once she realized how fun it would be to explore life in a different city, it was not long before she accepted the new gig.

“If you know anything about the European job market, if you compare it to New York salaries, the salaries are a huge cut,” Soldana explains to the audience watching at home. “But I said ‘f— it,’ and I took the job even though it was a lower salary, and it was probably the best decision I’ve ever made.” That’s what life is all about. Sometimes, you just have to take that leap.

“On top of that, the additional paid vacation time is just insane,” she continued. “I went from three weeks of paid time off in New York City to having seven weeks — legal minimum — paid time off in Paris.”
