A USPS employee from Newmarket, New Hampshire is being praised a hero after saving the life of an elderly woman along her route.

According to a police report, was delivering mail when she noticed one of the residents along her route hadn’t picked up their mail in four days, and their car hadn’t left the driveway.

It was unusual for this person to not collect their mail, and Berridge knew from previous deliveries that the resident was an 80-year-old woman who lived alone.

In an interview with CNN, Berridge said, “I hadn’t seen her in a while and I noticed her mail wasn’t getting picked up, so I got a little concerned.”

While many people may have carried on their route and not thought much else of it, Berridge went above and beyond by calling the Newmarket Police Department to request a welfare check.

According to the police report, officers arrived and found the elderly woman trapped on the floor in the bedroom and yelling for help. Some items had fallen on top of her and she’d been stuck beneath them for at least three days before help arrived.

According to CNN, the woman was treated at the hospital for hypothermia and dehydration and is currently stable and recovering well.

The police department wrote, “It is this department’s belief that Kayla’s knowledge of the people on her route as well as her attentiveness saved the life of this resident.”
