Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Lockdown has been a difficult time in life for many people. It also includes businesses, but some of them are doing what they can to spread some smiles, even if they can’t sell you food. That includes El Arroyo, a Tex-Mex restaurant that has gone viral online for being funny. The establishment is based in Austin and every day, they post a funny message on a sign outside. The locals love it and the Internet has gone crazy for it.

The messages are posted on a marquee sign that has been around since the restaurant opened in 1975. It is still an important part of the character of the area. Every day, you can look for a new note posted on the place card. This isn’t the first time they have done something like this, but now that they are dealing with the coronavirus like the rest of us, they are looking to make people happy while they are temporarily closed. They are also upgrading their Instagram every day with observations about quarantine life. One sign reads, “My hands are consuming more alcohol than my mouth,” and another, “I need to practice some social distancing from the fridge.”

The co-owner of El Arroyo, Paige Winstanley has the following to say about the sign: “In these times when much is unknown, El Arroyo finds our comfort in bringing smiles and laughter to our community on a daily basis.” If you have a funny idea, you can even submit suggestions to them via email at sign@elarroyo.com.

Below are some of the hilarious signs outside of El Arroyo but you can look at their Instagram to see more daily creations.
