Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

When we first heard that the coffee giant Starbucks would be switching up its ice, we figured that this was no big deal at all. Who could honestly care about such a minor thing?

However, it turns out that there are a number of patrons who are not pleased with what is taking place. As it turns out, they are pivoting away from the classic cubes.

This has a lot of folks upset and we can see why, now that we have had a moment to ponder on it. In case you are wondering, this move has not been made across the board just yet. According to CBS News, it is only happening in select locations for now. Perhaps this is why so many people are raising a fuss now. They are trying their best to keep this from happening everywhere.

“As we continue to innovate and make investments in the Starbucks Experience for our partners (baristas) and customers, we are introducing new machines that make nugget ice to select stores this year,” a Starbucks spokesperson said, according to KTLA.

That is not all that the company had to say when it comes to the change, either. “Like many of our recent investments, this machine allows partners to focus on delivering the Starbucks Experience while hand-crafting the same delicious, high-quality iced beverages our customers have come to expect from Starbucks,” the spokesperson continued.

Clearly, they believe that this change is being made for the best. The change is going to be made over the course of multiple years as well. As of now, the plan is to roll out the new ice cubes slowly and give a higher level of priority to the locations that are consistently fielding a higher amount of cold beverage orders.

New special ice (we are 1 of 3 cafe stores testing the new ice). What do you guys think? It looks like the ice at sonic.

This makes sense to us but probably comes as little solace to the people who are not down for the change in the first place. The main difference comes into play because the nugget cubes are denser and smaller than the typical cubes.

Of course, a debate has broken out online over it after a photo of the new ice was shared on Reddit.

Where do you stand on this one? Do you care about the change or is it much ado about nothing?
