Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Sidewalk Specials regularly does outreach in poor areas throughout South Africa, like the De Doorns township. They look for dogs in need of medical care or who are suffering from neglect or abuse and they offer them help.

While doing outreach, workers with the organization came across Roxy. The poor dog was so skinny and clearly neglected, so they started searching for her owner.

Apparently, Roxy’s owners didn’t want her anymore. They gave her to a group of local kids, but the kids weren’t educated on pet ownership.

The poor dog was suffering and the kids weren’t sure how to care for her, so Sidewalk Specials intervened and took Roxy home with them.

Once at the vet, they determined that poor Roxy hadn’t eaten in days and had worked up quite an appetite. She was also suffering from malnutrition and tick-bite fever.

It took a little bit of time, but she slowly began to recover. She gained some weight, her open sores healed, and she got over the tick bite fever. Eventually, she even found a new forever home!

Now, Roxy is a big sister and has learned how to play, snuggle, and enjoy the best things in life.
