There are certain myths that have been allowed to exist for too long, and now, this Starbucks barista is here to clear things up.

For those who are unaware, there is a very common myth when it comes to the service that patrons receive at various Starbucks locations. Standalone locations are believed to offer better service than Starbucks that are found inside other stores. Some people think the standalone locations make better or different beverages or adhere to different standards.

However, Ryan (who goes by @coffeefanatics on TikTok) has worked at a Target Starbucks, a Barnes and Noble Starbucks and a standalone Starbucks and he’s here to shatter that myth.

When a viewer wanted to know why the embedded Starbucks locations were worse, Ryan was quick to reply. “Most Starbucks baristas will tell you that Target is not trained at the level that regular Starbucks is. And that’s absolutely false,” he said in the video.

According to Ryan, all Starbucks stores utilize the exact same training module, so there should not be any noticeable difference in the service that is received. That’s not all, either. The Target-based employees also receive training for specific issues related to their store.

According to Ryan, these employees also have to sign off on any new recipe cards that they are given, which ensures that they have taken the time to learn more about the ingredients list. They are also expected to assume responsibility for any and all screw-ups that take place.

However, he did note that Target or other retail locations could be slower or perceived at worse due to low staffing. Sometimes, those locations are staffed with one to two people, instead of the three to four people that the job really requires.

He also said that any perceived difference in service quality has to do more with the quality of the store’s management. However, this is something that can take place regardless of location. “That’s just retail, baby,” he shared. “You never know what you’re gonna get.”

The point is a simple one to understand. If there is something wrong with the Starbucks in question, it is probably due to management issues or short staffing, as opposed to anything else.

Starbucks-related issues are a constant topic of discussion on TikTok and it is easy to see why. People want to know whether they are heading to the right locations and now thanks to Ryan, those who have been avoiding the embedded Starbucks locations can learn more about the error of their ways.
