Red White & Blue Yogurt Pops

Fresh fruit is one of the simplest and best desserts. And these red, white, and blue yogurt pops build on that, with only 5 ingredients and a super fresh taste that will make you smile. And, best of all this lower sugar option has about half as many carbs as a single serving of your favorite fruit-flavored yogurt. Plus you can know that there are only wholesome ingredients in this creamy and refreshing frozen treat.

To get started making these pops we’re making our sweet yogurt base. Plain Greek yogurt works the best here as it’s richer. For a more decadent treat use the higher fat, creamy kind.

We’re using honey to sweeten these pops since it’s got more flavor than sugar. It also blends smoothly into the mixture without getting grainy. 1/3 cup is a good starting point for this recipe, but you can add more if you don’t find this sweet enough for your liking.

The first later is strawberries mixed into the honey yogurt base. The next layer is the plain honey yogurt, and the final layer is the blueberry one.

For the molds I used silicone ones that came with reusable plastic sticks. I still prefer the old fashioned wooden ones. But, I like it that I have options.

This mold happened to fit perfectly into a glass loaf pan I already had which made it easy to move around. Every mold is different and some are metal or hard plastic and don’t need support. But, with these soft ones I didn’t want to risk accidentally squeezing them or making dents.

An important thing to note here is that you won’t be able to make the red, white, and blue stripe pattern in the same way if you use molds that are filled horizontally. So if you want these fun stripes make sure to get the vertical style molds. As an option you can add a few drops of food coloring to the red and blue layers to heighten the colors.

This is a super easy recipe, but it does require planning ahead to freeze each layer separately so that the layers are clear and don’t bleed into each other. Another tip to making sure they are distinct is to be as careful as you can to not drip the yogurt down the sides of each mold section.

I let these pops freeze overnight and I’m glad I did. An extra firm popsicle will release more easily from the mold.
