Upside Down In The Pantry

Yes, you read that right. Not only should peanut butter be stored at room temperature, but the best way to get easy, spreadable peanut butter is to store it upside down. This tip is especially helpful when it comes to natural peanut butter, though it is also useful for other kinds of peanut butter as well. If you’ve ever purchased a jar of natural peanut butter, then you’ll know the struggle. There’s that thick layer of oil on top, while the actual peanut butter underneath is rock solid. Is it really worth the hassle? See why this genius hack really works!

Why It Works

By storing your jar of peanut butter upside down, the oil will settle at the bottom. Thus, when you flip the jar right side up, the oil will naturally make its way to the top thanks to gravity. If you don’t use your peanut butter that often, there’s a greater chance of the oil separation, so alternate between right side up and upside down. If you’re still having trouble with the oil and rock hard peanut butter, another trick is to make cuts like a hashtag and let the oil sink into the cuts you’ve made. You’ll then be able to stir the peanut butter with a little more ease.
