There is been a lot of concern over eating oil in the past. It seems as if there are two camps on the issue, one that says you should eat oil and one that says you shouldn’t.

Perhaps that is why so many people are interested when a new study is published on the subject and one recently showed up in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

They did some research and found out that if you eat half a tablespoon of olive oil per day, you are less likely to die from heart problems, cancer, respiratory issues, or neurodegenerative diseases.

In order to come up with this information, they analyzed 60,582 women and 31,801 men. All of those participating in the study were also in the Nurses Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study.

The research was led by a senior research scientist from Harvard, Marta Guasche-Ferre. She was one of the scientists who ensured that none of the participants had either cancer or heart problems when the study started back in 1990.

A questionnaire was given to the participants every four years so they could assess the types of fats and oils that they ate. This would include what they used for cooking.

According to the research, those who consumed more olive oil were more likely to eat more fruits and vegetables, be physically active, and were less likely to smoke. In addition, they were more likely to have an ancestry that could be traced to the Mediterranean or southern European area.
