Iowa Ham Salad is the kind of retro Midwestern recipe that feels right at home on a church potluck table, at a family picnic, or tucked into a well-loved community cookbook. Recipes like this have been around for generations, making good use of leftover ham and turning it into something everyone will look forward to!

There’s something to be said for recipes that don’t require much fuss. This ham salad comes together with just a handful of everyday ingredients, and you don’t need any special equipment or cooking skills to make it. The combination of creamy dressing, a little sweetness, and a tangy mustard flavor gives it that familiar taste.

In true Midwestern fashion, this is a versatile recipe that works for all sorts of occasions. Spread it between slices of bread for an easy lunch, pile it onto soft dinner rolls for a casual gathering, or serve it with crackers when you need a simple appetizer. It’s also a great way to use up leftover ham after a holiday meal, giving it a second life instead of letting it go to waste.

The best part is that Iowa Ham Salad can be made ahead of time, which makes it especially handy for busy days and get-togethers. A little time in the refrigerator allows the flavors to come together before serving. Whether you grew up eating ham salad or are discovering this old-fashioned favorite for the first time, it’s an easy recipe worth keeping around.
