The Barbie website talks about the series, known as “The Inspiring Women Series.” It discusses courageous women who have stood up and made their mark on society, helping women for generations in the process.

Dr. Maya Angelou is well known on a number of levels. Not only was she an accomplished poet and dancer, but she was also an author, actress, and civil rights activist. Perhaps her most known work is the memoir from 1969, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” As an African-American woman, she was the first to have a nonfiction bestseller.
