Del Monte Foods, Inc. has issued a recall on one of its canned corn products due to possible botulism contamination. At this time, Canned Fiesta Corn Seasoned with Red & Green Peppers has been identified as contaminated with this very serious bacteria. Over 64,000 cases of Canned Fiesta Corn Seasoned with Red & Green Peppers are a part of this recall alert.
At this time there are no known cases of illness reported. The company has released product information to help consumers identify the affected products. The FDA has shared the following product information:
“The products subject to recall are 15.25-ounce (432g) cans with the following UPC number printed on the label: 24000 02770. The product will also have one of the following “Best if Used By” dates stamped on the bottom of the can:

- August 16, 2021
- Sept 3, 2021
- Sept 4, 2021
- Sept 5, 2021
- Sept 6, 2021
- Sept 22, 2021
- Sept 23, 2021
The product was distributed to multiple distributors and retail locations in 25 states and 12 international locations.
States: Alaska, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
International locations: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, El Salvador, Haiti, Guyana, Uruguay, Aruba, Panama, Saint Lucia, Suriname.”
Botulinum toxin is a very harmful bacteria that, if consumed, can lead to sickness and in some cases, death. The onset of symptoms can begin within hours of consumption of a contaminated food. Muscle weakness, paralysis, blurred or loss of vision, trouble breathing and swallowing are some of the symptoms associated with botulism.
