Place a large tub of defrosted whipped topping in a large pan, a 9×13-inch baking or casserole dish will do well for this.
After spreading the topping into an even layer, use food color (preferably liquid and not the gel type) and drop bits of color across the pan. Depending on what sort of color scheme you’re going for, you can group certain colors in different parts of the pan.
Use a chopstick to swirl the color into the whipped topping.
