If you’re looking for a holiday dessert that captures the flavor and the craziness of the season, this Christmas Chaos Cake is just the thing. This recipe takes a classic cake mix and transforms it into something truly show-stopping, thanks to swirls of cranberry sauce and pockets of sweet cream cheese baked right in. Inspired by the classic Earthquake Cake, it cracks and swirls as it bakes for an imperfect look that’s part of its charm! And there’s no frosting required for this sweet treat, one less thing to worry about in the Christmas rush.

The cake starts with a base of chopped pecans for a little texture in every bite. Then comes a simple boxed cake mix– a shortcut that saves time and hassle. Then you dollop that luscious cream cheese mixture and spoonfuls cranberry sauce over the top. A quick swirl, and you’ll see why this dessert gets its signature “earthquake” effect in the oven.

As it bakes, the cream cheese melts into the cake, creating little pockets of tangy sweetness, while the cranberry sauce adds bursts of holiday flavor. The result is something between a gooey butter cake and a festive cranberry cobbler, rich, moist, and almost too pretty to eat (almost). It’s the kind of dessert that looks like you spent hours fussing over it, but really, it all comes together in minutes. Whether you make it for a holiday office party, church function, or Christmas Eve dessert, this Christmas Chaos Cake is going to be a hit!
