Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There are a lot of crazy people out there who would do us harm if they could. Given how dangerous the world can be, it makes sense that we try to take steps to protect ourselves.

There is a whole market for home security systems in order to help protect our homes and keep ourselves and our families safe. Granted, some of these options aren’t for everyone as they can be either really expensive or really complicated.

But there is a very simple solution that has been found online, brought to us by a neighborhood watch coordinator. It’s so simple it is hard to believe! All it entails is putting your car keys beside your bed at night. Yes, it’s that easy a safety trick.

Essentially, this is how it works: If you hear a noise in the middle of the night that sounds like someone is prowling around trying to break in, all you have to do is reach over to your keys and hit the panic button. The sound of the car alarm will scare off any potential burglars as the noise will draw unwanted attention from your neighbors who might be checking to see what the racket is.

The best part is, the car alarm is one that will continue to sound until either you turn off the alarm yourself, or if the car battery dies. Either way, it will sound for a while, and will undoubtedly get the attention of others in your neighborhood. It’s so simple, yet so effective.

It’s something that you can share with your friends and family so that they can keep safe too, especially coming into the holiday season when break-ins are statistically much more likely to happen.

Rather than install a super expensive or complicated security system you can give this one a whirl. The best thing is that it requires no installation, and it will go off from almost anywhere in your home, so long as your car is parked nearby in the driveway or garage.

It’s a simple trick that could end up saving your life. Have you ever tried this trick yet? Have you heard of it before? Let us know!
