We Will Never Forget The Best Woolworth’s Dishes

The Woolworth’s lunch counters didn’t serve elaborate meals and many didn’t even do full hot lunches. But, somehow the food was some of the best. Perhaps it was that shopping at Woolworth’s worked up an appetite. Or perhaps their recipes just had a little something extra to them. Here are some of the best Woolworth’s dishes that we would never be able to forget- and the recipes to go with so you can make them at home whenever you get a craving!

Creole Macaroni

What makes this recipe different from other macaroni casserole recipes? Well the tomato base is rich with bell peppers and topped with some yummy cheddar before being baked to perfection. This hot dish wasn’t available at every Woolworth’s lunch counter as the menus varied by location, but it was such a good meal in itself. This is a dish you could have every week and not get tired of it! Get the recipe right here.

No-Bake Cheesecake

No discussion about Woolworth’s lunch counter food would be complete without mentioning their phenomenal cheesecake with the graham cracker crust. This no-bake creation was light as air and had a silky sweet texture. No wonder it inspired a million other diners to follow suit and it became a household favorite to make at home, too. Ham Salad Sandwich

Finely chopped ham (not ground) and some freshly chopped celery were the keys to this yummy lunch sandwich. This was served as a triple decker with an extra piece of toasted bread in between 2 layers of the ham spread. It was a sandwich that was hard to beat for flavor and for being a filling lunch! See the recipe here.
