The potentially affected eggs came from plant numbers 6562 or 5330 (noted with the names P-6562 or CA-5330). The eggs were sold from February 3, 2025, through May 15, 2025 at locations in AZ, CA, IL, IN, NE, NM, NV, WA, and WY. So far cases of infection have been reported linked to these specific eggs in 7 of the states: AZ, CA, KY, NE, NJ, NV, WA.
The recalled eggs have “sell by” dates ranging from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025.
Testing using Whole Genome Sequencing at August Egg Company facilities yielded 2 samples with a match with the strain of bacteria causing this particular outbreak, known medically as Salmonella enterditis.

Salmonella causes food poisoning symptoms 6 hours to 6 days after exposure and can lead to death in certain individuals like children, the immunocompromised, and the elderly. Symptoms of an infection from Salmonella can include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, cramps, headache, dehydration, and in some cases, long-term health complications.
In rare cases the bacteria can infect other parts of the body besides the GI tract, leading to other symptoms. However, many cases of hospitalization or death related to Salmonella involve severe dehydration.

To reduce the risk of illness if you have any eggs matching the descriptions above please throw them out or bring them back to the store where you purchased them for a refund. If you have decanted eggs from the stores listed above into other containers that no longer contain their plant and sell by date information then throw them out to be on the safe side as well.
