Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Cody and Kaylee Weishaar weren’t planning to get a dog, but sometimes the unexpected happens. For them, it happened when Cody saw a tiny pit bull on his coworker’s Snapchat.

Apparently, his coworker was trying to get rid of the tiny pup because he’d recently had a baby and couldn’t handle a puppy and a baby at the same time.

Kaylee insisted that she didn’t have time for a dog, but when she met Bear, her feelings about the matter changed. They brought the blue-nosed pittie home and he quickly became an integral part of their family.

Once again, the Weishaars found themselves in an unexpected situation when Kaylee found herself wandering down the aisles of an animal shelter. They didn’t want another dog, but when Kaylee saw Chuy all alone in the shelter, she knew he was the right dog to bring home.

Of course, she called Cody to tell him she was getting a second dog and he immediately drove Bear to the shelter to meet their new family member. They weren’t sure how Bear would react at first, but the sweet dogs quickly hit it off!

Bear couldn’t stop smiling over getting a new sibling and Chuy seemed to fit right into the family. The Weishaar’s weren’t sure what Chuy had been through prior to living with them, but whatever it was wasn’t great. He got scared easily and would tremble and run.

After three years in their care, Chuy finally seemed to “decompress” and be able to relax. He knew he was in good care in their hands, and he had a great “big brother” around to show him the ropes.
