We are well into 2020 which means we’ve all been living with the COVID-19 pandemic for a while. At the start of the pandemic, most of us probably would leave the house only to have to run back five seconds later because we weren’t used to the idea of having to wear a mask in a public space. But by now we’re probably all veterans of the mask game – maybe even owning several reusable ones that are tailor-made to our personal styles. I myself have all nerdy or literary-themed ones.
But as cute as we may try to make our masks, there’s no denying that they’re still not ideal to wear. They’re hot, sometimes itchy, the straps occasionally pull at your ears, and no matter how many times you wash them or rotate fresh masks, they still give you acne. But these are all the minor inconveniences that we go through in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and hopefully save the life of someone who is at risk.
In trying to make wearing masks more tolerable, Hormel has come up with a unique, first-of-its-kind mask – and it’s definitely a first. The company best known for its food products is using science and their “latest in pork-scented technology” to give us the Hormel Black Label Breathable Bacon mask.
Yes, that is correct. They have released a two-ply multi-fiber cloth mask that gives you the constant smell of bacon. The mask isn’t for sale, but it is still available to win online through Hormel’s website – so long as the supplies last. You can enter to win up until the 28th of October and the winners will randomly be selected on the 4th of November.
Even if you aren’t one of the winners, just entering can help do some good in this world. Hormel has stated that they will be donating one meal to Feeding America for every entry on their website – up to 10,000 meals!
The senior brand manager for Hormel Black Label Bacon, Nick Schweitzer, stated in a press release for the company, “We’re continually focused on innovation — from new products, to marketing and distribution — all in an effort to deliver new and exciting ways to experience and enjoy Black Label Bacon. In 2020, that means connecting everyone’s favorite bacon scent to the year’s ‘it’ accessory, and in doing so, bring Black Label Bacon closer to our fans.”
While Hormel might have made a bacon-scented mask, it’s not the only unique mask that has been invented over the course of the pandemic. Crook and Marker have created a mask with a specialty straw hole so you can still drink without having to remove the mask. There are also masks that are designed for working out or others that can be made to resemble your own face.
