17,000 Cartons Of Ice Cream Recalled

As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, nothing satisfies the summer season quite like a scoop (or several) of ice cream. Yet, before you start to defrost your freezer’s carton of ice cream, check to see if it’s been recalled.

In late April, a report was filed with the FDA by Iowa-based ice cream manufacturer Wells Enterprises, a company that manufactures for popular brand labels like Blue Bunny and Halo Top. In the filed report, it was found that numerous batches of ice cream and frozen yogurt could contain foreign plastic pieces.  

This recall was issued to twenty-two flavors of ice cream that were distributed to over 103 distributor centers in the cities of Le Mars, Iowa; Rosemont, Illinois; and Fort Worth, Texas. It was also distributed in the states of Wyoming, Michigan, and other regions of Texas. The list of recalled flavors is:

  • Mocha Almond Fudge Ice Cream
  • Peanut Butter ‘N Fudge Ice Cream
  • Country Rich Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Scooper Hero Ice Cream
  • Cotton Candy Flavored Ice Cream
  • GFGB Vanilla Bean Flavored Ice Cream
  • Quick Blend Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream
  • Planet Smoothie ZSA Vanilla Flavored Fat Free Frozen Yogurt
  • Johnny Rockets Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream
  • BIPC Flavored Ice Cream
  • Vanilla Frozen Yogurt
  • Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream
  • GFGB 12% Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream
  • Gordon Choice Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream
  • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with Madagascar Vanilla

    While there haven’t been any reports of illness, ingesting substances like plastic is considered dangerous and labeled as a Class II recall. This recall was found in certain 3-gallon tubs with the expiration dates ranging from March to October 2026. 

    There hasn’t been a press release, and no steps have been provided for consumers, but as with most recalls, the FDA urges people not to consume the product. The manufacturer has a form for consumers to fill out here and you can also find more details on the FDA website here.
