Perhaps we thought we could do something better than anyone else alive, but we probably never dreamed about getting in the record book for growing a strawberry.

As it turns out, however, a family farm in Israel was the home of a strawberry that was over 10 ounces when they picked it. To put it in perspective, that’s more than half a pound!

Guinness World Records now recognizes this as the heaviest strawberry ever picked.

One of the members of the family, Ariel, said they had to wait a year for the results. When they first picked it, it was beautiful but after being in the freezer for a year, it lost some of its luster.

As it turns out, the strawberry is an Ilan, which is a type of very that is known for growing to a larger size.

As far as the record-breaking strawberry is considered, it has already shrunk to about half its former size but they still managed to capture enough information that it could gain the record.

Prior to the time that this strawberry came onto the scene, a Japanese fruit held the record since 2015. It was 8.8 ounces, so this is a significant step up.
