We are a sucker for anything that involves someone setting a world record. There are certain records that are flabbergasted by, to be honest. We often find ourselves wondering why some of these records even exist but that does not make them any less special. Take this story, for instance. This woman set a record that we never even knew about!
That’s right, she’s now the Guinness World Record holder for spinning the largest hula hoop. Getti Kehayova is her name and as it turns out, she’s well experienced in this regard.
She did not take on this task on a whim. As someone who was worked with Cirque du Soleil as a circus performer, hula hoop instructor, and technician, she’s well acquainted with these types of activities.
In fact, she is not even the sole record breaker in her family. Her father is responsible for setting the Guinness World Record for the seven-man high perch pyramid act. Not to be outdone, her sister is said to have previously held the record for the most hula hoops spun (although it has been broken since). It is safe to say that it is in her genes.
The video of Getti breaking the record was shared on TikTok, as the woman happily spun a 17 foot (!) hula hoop.
We have no idea how this is even physically possible but we give her all of the credit in the world. We never would have been able to do this in a million years and that’s what makes it so much fun to watch.
“I grew up in the circus with my sister and our parents, traveling all over the world performing as acrobats,” Getti said during a recent interview with Guinness. “And then my sister and I had my very own hula hoop act, so she is the one that basically got me started.” Japanese hula hooper Yuya Yamada was the previous record holder.
“It was quite painful because the hula hoop is pretty heavy, so every time that revolution and spin comes around and it touches every part of your body, it kind of feels like a punch up against your body,” Getti explained.

She even had to wear a protective vest to remain safe from injuries.
