The dress code decision that this bride made has drawn a lot of attention and it is time that we found out why.

Of course, the world of TikTok has been having a serious debate about it. Samantha’s wedding may have already come and gone but the arguments will rage on for some time. It’s a topic that is sure to inspire a spirited reaction regardless of where you stand.

When she shared the code that she wanted her guests to abide by, the response was immediate. The detractors thought that she was being inconsiderate from a financial standpoint. In retrospect, she does not seem to think that the idea was a bad one. She does not seem to think that she was being controlling.

It’s always fascinating to see someone double down when they have said something that the rest of the internet finds polarizing. This would be the time when most people would be willing to take a step back and reconsider.

Samantha is not one of them. She told her wedding guests that she wanted them to wear dark blues, grays, and beiges, as part of her plan to embrace a neutral palette for her wedding.

“I posted on our wedding website some examples and just said, ‘Hey, I would like it if you wear something like this.’ Also, colors to avoid,” she explained on TikTok. Shades of white were supposed to be avoided, as well as red, orange, and yellow. It won’t shock anyone to learn that her family was not very pleased to hear about these plans.

“Basically, everyone was outraged. I got so much crap for posting this. One of my aunts even told me, if I care so much about what she wears, she’s just not going to show up,” she continued. “My mother-in-law was calling my husband saying, ‘What the heck is up with Sam? Does she not understand that people don’t have money to buy a new outfit?’”

“Everyone pretty much thought I was the devil for asking them to wear neutrals. Although, I think most people have gray or beige or navy blue in their wardrobe,” Sam added.

Her goal was a simple one: She wanted wedding photos that were cohesive and would look nice on her wall, but she didn’t consider how her guests might feel.
