Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

As most of us already know, this year’s Thanksgiving is going to look much different for the average American. As COVID-19 numbers continue to surge around the country, it is time that we take the necessary precautions. Let’s all do our part and keep our celebrations in our own households. Any unnecessary travel could cause the virus to spread even further.

With smaller celebrations, many of us will be having smaller dinners. And we may not need the giant turkey we had in years past. Thankfully, Wal-Mart is here to help!

Some might be wondering where they can find a turkey that is small enough for a reduced gathering this year, and maybe save some money at the same time.

Wal-Mart’s recent post predicts that the “sprint to Thanksgiving is likely going to be spread over a greater number of days, and the largest turkey in the freezer is less likely to be the star.” As Americans prepare to feed smaller crowds this year, the smaller turkeys are going to take on a greater level of importance. Their post wasn’t done there, though.

“As always, we’ll have plenty of whole turkeys, but this year, we’ve increased our assortment of bone-in and boneless turkey breasts by 20-30 percent in stores across the country,” the chain continued. Citing a survey that was taken by turkey giant Butterball, the number of people who plan on having a larger gathering has dipped down to 26 percent. The number of people who plan to celebrate with immediate family only is up by 10 percent.

Wal-Mart can’t be expected to know what all of their customers want, though. For example, we are still thinking about making a full-size bird at our house. After all, there are simply too many meals that can be made out of the leftovers.

“Regardless of how they plan to celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re committed to ensuring our customers can find what they want earlier in the season, all at affordable prices,” Wal-Mart’s message concludes.

We are glad that they are looking out for all of their consumers this year. Are you planning a smaller Thanksgiving celebration this year?
