Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

If you find yourself wondering how to eliminate the weeds on your driveway, walkway, or patio, you are not alone. It’s a common issue that most of us have experienced at some point, and when we cannot access the base of the weed, they become much harder to remove. Roots that are left behind only allow the plants to grow back eventually. Fortunately, they can be eliminated completely with a few simple steps.

To get started, put on the proper gardening clothing. This will keep you from spilling bleach on any clothing that you truly value. Once you have the right clothes on, grab a pair of rubber gloves. You’ll want to keep them on while you are mixing up the solution that will be used. Take an empty spray bottle and make a label that can clearly be read. The last thing that you want is for the solution to fall into the wrong hands, so proper labeling is crucial.

Then, fill up your spray bottle with some tap water. It is recommended that you fill the bottle at least halfway. As soon as this step is complete, fill the other half of the bottle with bleach. A 50/50 mix is your best bet when it comes to removing the weeds from all of the most cumbersome areas that they have been able to take root in.

When you are ready to start spraying, focus on the leaves and the base of the plants. These are the areas that have to be targeted if you are going to experience any level of success. 10 sprays are suggested for the smaller weeds and some of the larger weeds may require twice as many. You’ll need to use your best judgment and common sense. Check back 24 hours after the initial spray. This will let you know if any additional weed killer needs to be applied.

If the weed has not wilted at all within the 24 hour period, you’ll need to add some more. As soon as you notice any dead weeds in the area where you are spraying, you need to remove them entirely. The smaller weeds can be swept away with a broom after they have had a chance to wither away.

Thanks to these helpful steps, you can finally eliminate the weeds from your driveway, walkway, and patio once and for all.
