Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

This teenager made a decision that we would not expect a lot of other kids to make if we are being very honest. If the average kid makes this find, they are probably headed to the mall as fast as their legs will carry them. This is the story of a kid who has a heart of gold and is always willing to do the right thing.

When he found a wallet with $1,500 stashed inside, he did not pocket the cash, as many of us would. Instead, he brought it back to the owner with every last dollar intact.

Melissa Vang of Elk Grove, California happened to be home at the time. She was with her two young children when she heard a knock at the door.

At first, she feared the worst and ignored it. Once she took a closer look at her security cameras, she realized that the knock was nothing to be afraid of.

The young man at her door was merely returning the wallet that her husband had dropped. Vang later learned that Tyler Opdyke, 18, just so happened to make his way around the neighborhood when the wallet was lost.

All he wanted to do was pass out flyers for pest control. He never could have expected what ended up happening next. Vang knew that she needed to acknowledge this gesture and she took to Facebook as soon as she found out. “God bless this young man’s heart,” Vang wrote in her post.

“My husband dropped his wallet (with hundreds of dollars and all his credit cards) in our drive way and this gentleman picked it up and left it at our doorstep after waiting for a few minutes, because I wouldn’t open the door (for strangers). I later found him. Thanked and rewarded him for his kind gesture.” “It’s sad that I didn’t trust him to open my door when he was just doing a good deed,” she continued.

As a teenager who is about to start college, Tyler admits that the money excited him initially. According to King5, he said: “I’ve been raised in the church all my life and I just felt this is not mine. I don’t know their family. I don’t know what they’re going through.”
