People across the United States and in many parts of the world will be looking to the meeting of the Los Angeles Rams with the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

It is set to happen on February 13, 2022, and it should be an interesting matchup. Although they will be playing in Inglewood, California, the Bengals may have the upper hand as far as fans are concerned. Considering the Bengals haven’t been to the Super Bowl in almost 25 years, there are many people who have been waiting for this match a long time.

One of the most interesting things about the event this year is not necessarily who is playing but when they are playing. If you are somebody who watches the big game every year, you probably realize that it seems to be a week late.

The change of time has to do with an announcement from the NFL about an extra game being added to the regular-season schedule. That announcement from March 2021 pushed the Super Bowl week back because now they were playing 17 games in a season rather than 16.

This shifted everything because they still had a “by week” every year when they were off. As a result, even the Super Bowl had to be shifted. Prior to this year, it was played on the first Sunday in February but now it is being played on the second.

If you wanted to see another time when the Super Bowl date changed, you would have to go all the way back to January 15, 1967. January was the go-to day for all of Super Bowls from 1967 for the next 34 years.

In 2002, the NFL decided to postpone the games for week two after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Rather than the Super Bowl on the last weekend in January that season, it was the first weekend in February.

In 2003, they held the Super Bowl in January again but the NFL decided they liked February so they started playing on the first week in February starting in 2004.

Now that it’s changed again, we will all have to update our Super Bowl plans from this year forward.
