Fortunately, he was able to break the windows and pull the passenger out in the nick of time. “I stopped and got out and the passenger was shouting ‘get me out, get me out’ since the door was locked. So I broke the window and dragged him out,” the driver in the video below. The fire trucks arrived soon after and the flames were extinguished. It was too late to save the car, though.

Various motorists pulled over to offer assistance and some even began to provide donations on the spot. Other helpful citizens decided to stand in the street so that they could collect donations on the driver’s behalf. By day’s end, these people had managed to successfully raise enough money to purchase a new vehicle for the taxi driver.

Stories like these are a testament to what can happen when we are willing to come together for the greater good. There are a lot of people who would have seen this incident take place and kept on driving. These selfless folks were more than willing to stop what they were doing to help and that’s what makes this story such a special one.

We can’t even begin to fathom the level of fear and sadness that this driver had, as he watched his life’s work go up in flames on the side of the road. He probably imagined a life without being able to pay his bills, a life that would become exponentially harder without a means of transportation. Thanks to these thoughtful passersby, this is no longer something that he will have to reckon with.
