You will have to pardon us for being a bit surprised here. We already thought that Starbucks coffees were the epitome of luxury. However, this company is always looking for ways to step its game up and we love them for that.

To that end, they are now introducing a new ingredient that is designed to make their drinks even more luxurious. They will now be infused with olive oil!

That’s right, you can now order your coffees extra virgin. All jokes aside, we are highly intrigued by this development.

What does it mean for our favorite beverages that we already know and love? These drinks, which first launched in Italy at Milan’s Reserve Roastery as part of the Oleato line, have been infused with olive oil from the Sicilian Partanna brand EVOO.

Starbucks shared on Instagram that the new offering is a “velvety smooth, delicately sweet and lush coffee that uplifts each cup with an extraordinary new flavor and texture.”

That sounds pretty amazing to us. Italians will now be able to order Oleato drinks for their caffè lattes, iced shaken espresso and their “golden foam” cold brews. Oleato iced cortado and Oleato espresso martinis will also be available.

As for Americans, we are going to have to wait until springtime for these beverages to be rolled out. They are scheduled for their initial release in Southern California. From there, they are also expected to roll out in the United Kingdom, Japan, and the Middle East by the time 2023 is over. “Oleato represents the next revolution in coffee that brings together an alchemy of nature’s finest ingredients,” interim CEO Howard Schultz said in a press release.

In addition to these changes, “In select markets” Starbucks is planning to allow customers to choose the Oleato line s a customization to select beverages.” Customers will be able to ask for a “press” or just one spoonful of the olive oil.

“The press will then be infused (steamed, shaken or blended) as a customization into select drinks such as espresso beverages and tea lattes,” Starbucks announced. Yes, the “golden foam” is going to be customizable “as a delicious topping on both hot and cold beverages.”

This is one of Schultz’ final decisions as CEO and he says he’s not coming back after three stints at the top.
