Bubble tea or Boba can be a really fun and refreshing drink to enjoy – mainly because the little rounded gel-like bubbles are a delightful, bursting treat.

These drinks typically come either as iced tea or milk tea, which is normally paired with the drink. Once you get to the good part – the boba – you’re met with little pearls that are either chewy or pop in your mouth.

Bubble tea has been around for a while, but lately, it seems that the trend is really starting to take off. It’s growing so much that even Starbucks is getting in on the action. According to PEOPLE, one spokesperson for Starbucks confirmed that the coffee chain will be introducing a limited time test series of two drinks made with coffee boba pearls. The drinks will only be available at two Starbucks locations for a limited time, and there is still no information whether or not they’ll be rolled out to other nationwide locations.

As People reports, one of the locations will be a Starbucks in Palm Desert, California, with the other one up in Bellevue, Washington.

The popping boba pearls will be filled with Starbucks coffee, so you can expect that extra hit of caffeine whenever they burst. And as reported, Starbucks will be offering two different drink options. One is called In The Dark, a cold brew-based coffee drink, while the other is an iced chai tea latte.

One TikTokker, @kirbyssister, has already captured video footage of the new drinks.

According to the TikTokker, the boba pearls tend to float to the top of the iced chai, while they sink to the bottom of the cold brew. Either way, they look like they’re quite the treat.

While it may seem like a new novelty coming from Starbucks, Dunkin’ has actually been on the trend a little longer as the coffee and donut chain started offering popping bubbles back in June of last year. >Dunkin’s offers the option to add in the small bursting bubbles to any of their iced or frozen beverage for an additional charge. But we guess time will tell if they catch on to become a staple of the Starbucks menu.
