Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Some people love hot food and other people hate it, but for those who enjoy something spicy, they tend to REALLY enjoy it. They look for the hottest food they can find on the menu and even when something is hot, they may add something hotter to it.

One of the hot sauces that is extremely popular is sriracha sauce. That blend of a hybrid of sun-ripened red jalapeno chili peppers made into a sauce is the perfect way to add that zing to the food that we love.

Unfortunately, there is a shortage in the United States this year that was reported by the largest manufacturer of the sauce in the US, Huy Fong Foods, Inc. According to NPR, they sent a letter out to their base of customers letting them know that it might be difficult to find the sauce on the shelf.

Huy Fong Foods also gave a reminder to those customers about July 2020, when there was a shortage of chili pepper inventory. More recently, that shortage has gotten worse as the chili crops were affected by adverse weather conditions this year.

The letter said: “Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient we are unable to produce any of our products. Therefore, all orders submitted on or after April 19, 2022, will be scheduled AFTER Labor Day (September 6, 2022) in the order it was received.”

Any other orders that have yet to be confirmed are on hold until September. You can see the letter in the tweet below:

Although the letter acknowledges that the shortage could cause issues, they are letting people know that they will not be accepting new orders until September so that they can fulfill the current orders.

Along with the Sriracha sauce shortage, there is also going to be a shortage of Chili Garlic Sauce. That sauce is also made from red peppers.

They are also advising any restaurants or retailers that carry their products not to make unnecessary promises to customers until they see the sauce back in their hands again.
