Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

It’s not long now until the Winter Olympics begin in Beijing. In order to better prepare for such an event during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the host country is doing all it can to mitigitate risks of exposure.

All athletes and coaches, alongside other participants, are required to be fully vaccinated as well as take daily COVID-19 tests and wear underarm thermometers. There will also be social distancing requirements amongst the 25 different sites that made up the Olympic bubble.

But perhaps the coolest and most innovative change that will occur will happen inside the Olympic dining halls. According to PEOPLE, it has been revealed that several robots will be in charge of preparing and distributing food to the athletes.

Taking a cue from the summer Olympics, the Winter Olympics will also have a huge array of food options for the athletes to choose from, such as Chinese food, Western food, and fast food. And similar to the summer games, there will be specific dietary needs met for those who might be kosher, vegan, or gluten-free.

But this time, most of it will be coming to them with the assistance of high-tech serving devices, like the robot arm that will drop down from the ceiling in order to serve bowls of noodles to the people sitting inside their plexiglass cubicles.

There is also a robot “chef” who will be preparing burgers, a robot for grinding up coffee beans and making coffee, and also a robotic bartender!

Last summer, social media was full of those in the Olympic village sharing their food experiences. Hopefully this time around the athletes upload an inside look into their meals because we are dying to see the food-serving robots.
