Look, Kris Jenner is not the first person I would normally turn to for a brownie recipe. In fact, I don’t know that I can even really imagine her taking a few minutes out of her very busy schedule to make some brownies from scratch in her polished mansion… but it turns out she has actually published a cookbook, and thus probably knows how to cook. So maybe she is just the person to turn to for a brownie recipe! We set out to find out by making Kris Jenner’s Famous Brownies, a recipe that uses a lot of delicious ingredients and an unexpected technique or two.

We made these brownies as a part of our Celebrity Brownie Recipe Showdown. The showdown is a fun project where we take four celebrity recipes — some celebrity chefs, some not so much — cook them, and then taste and compare them to see how they stack up. This match-up included Kris Jenner, Gordon Ramsay, Alton Brown, and Snoop Dogg. They were all very different and delicious in their own right.

What’s in Kris Jenner’s Brownies?

It’s pretty standard stuff. She includes unsweetened chocolate (that’s melted with some butter), mini semi-sweet chocolate chips, walnuts, and then the usual baking suspects like flour, sugar, baking powder, and the like.

What’s Kris Jenner’s Method?

This is where things get interesting. Rather than using a hand mixer or a bowl and a whisk, Kris has you mix your entire batter in a food processor.

I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

First, you process the eggs and vanilla until they’re smooth and then add in the sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. The melted chocolate goes in next, followed by the chocolate chips and walnuts. Since the chocolate chips and walnuts are incorporated in the food processor too, they get a bit… pulverized.

They bake for 20-25 minutes and then Kris suggests sprinkling them with powdered sugar, if you’d like.

How Do Kris Jenner’s Brownies Taste?

They’re interesting! Most of our tasters found them to have a somewhat bitter flavor, thanks to those pulverized walnuts. They just don’t have that quintessential brownie taste and texture that you’re looking for when you make a brownie. I don’t know that the method really added anything to their final result — in fact, it might have taken away from it — but it was fun to try out.
