Racing is hard on dogs, and many end up injured or dumped when they can no longer perform. Thankfully, it’s slowly becoming banned throughout the United States.

In 2020, Florida officially ended greyhound racing, which was a huge win for dogs! However, it also left a lot of dogs homeless and in need of a new life.

All of the greyhounds that were being used for racing were no longer profitable or worth anything to their owners, and many ended up needing to be rescued.

Paul spent his life in a kennel and was forced to race until the very last day racing was legal. It was no life for a dog, but Paul was given a second chance when rescuers swooped in to take him from his life in Florida.

Elizabeth and Holden ended up adopting Paul, but he wasn’t a typical dog you might find at most shelters. Given his background, he really didn’t know how to do usual “dog” things, like play fetch, walk around, or just relax.

His new parents had to work ever so patiently to build his confidence up in his new life and teach him some basic things, like how to enjoy a comfortable dog bed, how to walk upstairs, and how to playfully interact with other dogs, which they documented on social media.

Little by little, Paul began to bloom. He learned how to take the stairs, run around the yard (for fun), and most importantly, he learned to relax.
