While we do not currently reside in New York City, the prospect of using the subway is a scary one for a lot of reasons.

For us, it has nothing to do with our sense of direction. We would figure all of that out with ease. The part that would worry us is the prospect of eventually losing or misplacing something on the subway. Once it is gone, it is gone….right?

That’s where this informative video comes into play. It was written by Amy Muller and is being presented by Half as Interesting’s Sam Denby. If you have ever wondered what happens to the items that are lost and/or misplaced on New York City subways, this is your chance to learn more.

We did not know that the NYC subway system also has a system for handling lost and found items. We had assumed that you were simply tough out of luck if you lost something on the subway.

To be honest, we are going to go out on a limb and assume that you are probably out of luck if you misplace certain things.

If you are losing a phone or any other form of valuable electronics, that is going to be claimed by someone whether you live in New York City or not. In addition to having a lost and found system, this video shows us just how well it works. People are reunited with all of their most important items on a regular basis, from the looks of this video.

“Turns out the New York City subway actually has a surprisingly robust underground lost and found system that reunites thousands of New Yorkers with their beloved whosits and whatsits every year,” the description reads. Anyone who would like to learn more about the process is more than welcome to check out this amazing video.

Sam walks us through each and every step of the process. He lets us know what happens when items are lost, where they go, and what happens when it comes time for the subway rider to successfully reunite with their lost property. It’s an awesome watch and we learned lots of things that we did not know.
