Joel Strasser is a true Christmas enthusiast. Now, he has the record to prove it. He hails from Kuna, Idaho and he’s got one of the most bizarre claims to fame possible.

The man has set a Guinness World Record for most ornaments on a beard. On December 2, he managed to attach 710 ornaments to his face. This is the culmination of a new holiday trend that made its debut on Shark Tank.

“Beardaments,” as they are known, are colorful accessories that easily clip onto facial hair. They have quickly become a popular holiday trend. The funniest part of all is that this man did not have any competition. The only record that he had to break is the one that he had already set on his own time.

In 2019, he successfully attached 302 baubles. In 2020, 542 baubles were attached. By 2021, he had managed to up that number to 686. In case you are wondering, he was more than happy to let us in on the creative process.

“My technique has evolved and gotten a lot more specialized over the years that I’ve been breaking the record,” Strasser said when he spoke to Guinness World Records.

“I stuck them in a lot more haphazardly at first and that’s why those first beard bauble record numbers were so low,” he explained. At least he is learning as he goes. “I found that if I take my time and really focus on the individual strands of beard hair and small groups of hair, I can manage to fit so many more in there,” he continued.

The process took him over two hours, not including the hour that it takes to take all of the baubles back out. All of the “beardaments” add up to over five pounds as well. Each of them comes with a small alligator clip, which means that he has to remove them one by one.

He’s not going to be using these ornaments to decorate his house, either. “I have a large shoebox full of baubles and I think they’ll stay there until I decide to attempt the record again,” he shares. “It’s tedious enough sticking over 700 of them in my beard. I don’t want to take the time to stick them all in the tree and remove them later!”
