Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Anyone who has a little baby to look after is sure to have thoughts about this one. As we all know, little ones have a tendency to care more about the box and the wrapping paper than the actual gift inside.

It only makes sense that at least one parent would decide to push these findings to their logical conclusion. It’s the type of video that is sure to lead to a lot of debate.

Laurie Cepkauskas shared a clip on her TikTok page, where she says that she is not going to be purchasing a gift for her child this year.

“Babies at Christmas be like…” her caption reads. As an experiment, she gives her child some gifts, and then she compares the reactions when she has common household items placed in front of her instead.

Of course, the child is far more thrilled to be playing with the household items every time. “This is just a gentle reminder with the holidays coming up,” Laurie says in the video. The child is offered new rattles and plush toys but they do not care.

Instead, they opt for the TV remote and a hair brush. We cannot stop laughing and there is a part of us that can understand exactly where she is coming from.

In a follow-up video, little Lilly opts for an empty water bottle and a sweet potato over toys. There were many parents who were relating hard to this one. “This may be one of the best TikToks to come across my page as I freak out about Christmas!” said one. Another parent remarked that the toys are more for the parents than the children.

As parents, it can be tough to suppress the urge to buy them the world. These are the types of clips that are sure to make some wonder if they really need to be spending all of that money.

Laurie is here to make us feel better about things, that is for sure. Some of the stories that were shared in the comments had us cracking up.

“We didn’t have money so we made a baby crib hanging mobile out of plastic spoons and it worked as well as the $50 wooden one,” one viewer shared.
